Dr. James Briscoe was selected as the new superintendent for Canyons School District effective July 1, 2014. Dr. Briscoe has served as an educational leader in public education for the past 32 years in the Chicago and Milwaukee metropolitan areas. He served as a middle school teacher, dean of students, and high school assistant principal for 11 years; a high school principal for nine years; and a superintendent for 12 years. Dr. Briscoe served the past six years as superintendent of DeKalb Community Unit School District 428, located in DeKalb, Ill. During his tenure in DeKalb, he worked closely with the Board of Education, administration and staff to build an $80 million high school and upgrade several facilities. In addition, the U.S. Department of Education visited the DeKalb School District to observe its implementation of Response to Intervention (RtI), and most recently, DeKalb High School was ranked in the top 10 percent of all high schools in the United States by U.S. News & World Report.
Dr. Briscoe is very excited about becoming part of the Canyons School District. He plans to be highly visible and accessible to families, students and staff. More importantly, he will continue to support the outstanding initiatives and innovative programs that have been created during the first five years of the establishment of Canyons School District.
