Our Substitute Teacher Application Period Is Now Closed.

It will re-open mid-July.

We LOVE our substitutes!

Thank you to all of the substitute educators and workers who serve our school district! 

Here at Canyons School District, we are committed to creating a team of professional personnel who play a crucial part in helping our students succeed. Licensed Substitute


$ 180 Per Day
  • Can choose to substitute in all CSD Schools. 
  • Substitutes ages 18+ are eligible to substitute in one CSD Elementary or Middle School of your choice.
  • Substitutes ages 20+ are eligible to work in all CSD schools. 

Regular Substitute


$ 150 Per Day
  • Can choose to substitute in all CSD Schools. 
  • Substitutes ages 18+ are eligible to substitute in one CSD Elementary or Middle School of your choice.
  • Substitutes ages 20+ are eligible to work in all CSD schools. 

Emergency Substitute


$ 125 Per Day
  • Substitutes ages 18+ are eligible to substitute in one CSD Elementary or Middle School of your choice.
  • Substitutes ages 20+ are eligible to work in any one CSD school of your choice. 

Long Term Substitute

for a Licensed Teacher
$ 15 Extra
  • Paid on the 10th consecutive day of the same assignment
  • Retroactive to the first day
  • Continues going forward until the 33rd consecutive day of the same assignment

Long Term Substitute

for a Licensed Teacher
$ 55 Additional
  • In addition to the $15 already being paid
  • Paid on the 33rd consecutive day of the same assignment
  • Retroactive to the first day, and continues going forward until the assignment is completed

Substitutes are paid their daily rate, regardless of whether the substitute job is for a teacher of a para-educator based on the following:

0-4 hrs = ½ pay

Over 4 hrs = full day pay

Join our team for the coming year!

Substitutes are required to work at least once every three-month period during the school year to stay active in the Frontline substitute system.

New Teacher Substitutes: 

Can choose to substitute in all CSD Schools. 

Substitutes ages 18+ are eligible to substitute in one CSD Elementary or Middle School of your choice.

Substitutes ages 20+ are eligible to work in all CSD schools. 

  1. Before you can begin work, New substitute teachers are required to complete the STEDi Subskills Course STEDi Training. The cost is $39.95 for the training. Print the diploma and upload it to your application in Step 4.
    • The STEDi Subskills Course is NOT required if you have an active or expired Professional Educator License or for current Canyons District student teachers. 
      • Associate or APT licenses do not count as a Professional Educator License
  2. Watch all 3 videos for Substitute critical policies and fill out the read and sign form. Upload completed read and sign form to your application in step 4.
  3. Read the Prevent Child Abuse Training Instructions then create an account to watch the Prevent Child Abuse training. Save the completion certificate to your computer or phone or print your certification. 
  4. Fill out an application for the Teacher Substitute position and upload the STEDi Substitute Diploma (or Professional Educator License) and Critical Policies Read & Sign form to your application (at the top of the page that says “Resume & Other File upload)
  5. When your 3 references have responded and you have successfully completed the trainings from steps 1, 2, & 3, you will receive an email to complete new hire paperwork and fingerprints in the Human Resources Department.
    • Bring 2 forms of ID (Driver’s License, Social Security Card and/or a Passport) and a voided check/or bank direct deposit form with your routing and account number for direct deposit.

Returning Teacher Substitutes:

All substitutes who wish to return for the 2023-24 school year are required to complete the following steps:

  1. Fill out the 2023-24 Intent to Return electronic PDF, then print and sign. 
  2. Watch all 3 videos for Substitute critical policies, print the read and sign form and fill out each section as you watch the videos.
  3. Read the Prevent Child Abuse Training Instructions then create an account to watch the Prevent Child Abuse training. Save the completion certificate to your computer or phone or print your certification. 
  4. Submit all documents from steps 1, 2, & 3 to Melanie Messam in Human Resources either in person or email: melanie.messam@canyonsdistrict.org
  5. Once all documents are received, your Frontline profile will be reactivated for the 2023-24 school year. 

New Emergency Teacher Substitutes:

Substitutes ages 18+ are eligible to substitute in one CSD Elementary or Middle School of your choice.

Substitutes ages 20+ are eligible to work in any one CSD school of your choice. 

Returning Emergency Teacher Substitutes:

All substitutes who wish to return for the 2023-24 school year are required to complete the following steps:

  1. Fill out the 2023-24 Intent to Return electronic PDF, then print and sign. 
  2. Watch all 3 videos for Substitute critical policies, print the read and sign form and fill out each section as you watch the videos.
  3. Read the Prevent Child Abuse Training Instructions then create an account to watch the Prevent Child Abuse training. Save the completion certificate to your computer or phone or print your certification. 
  4. Submit all documents from steps 1, 2, & 3 to Melanie Messam in Human Resources either in person or email: melanie.messam@canyonsdistrict.org
  5. Once all documents are received, your Frontline profile will be reactivated for the 2023-24 school year. 

New Bus Driver Substitutes:

  1. Submit an application for the Substitute Bus Driver position.
    • The Transportation Department will contact you once your 3 references have successfully submitted their responses.
  2. After Transportation has approved your hire, complete your new hire paperwork and fingerprints with the Human Resources Department.
    • Bring 2 forms of ID (Driver’s License, Social Security Card and/or a Passport) and a voided check/or bank direct deposit form with your routing and account number for direct deposit.

Returning Bus Driver Substitutes:

All substitutes who wish to return for the 2023-24 school year are required to complete the following steps:

  1. Call or email Pam Sorensen in the Transportation Department at 801-826-5251 or pamela.sorensen@canyonsdistrict.org to inform them you would like to return.
    • You will not be approved to return for the 2023-24 school year until step 1 is completed.

New Nutrition Substitutes:

  1. Submit an application for the Nutrition Substitute position.
    • The Nutrition Department will contact you once your 3 references have successfully submitted their responses.
  2. After the Nutrition Department has approved your hire, complete your new hire paperwork and fingerprints with Human Resources Department.
    • Bring 2 forms of ID (Driver’s License, Social Security Card and/or a Passport) and a voided check/or bank direct deposit form with your routing and account number for direct deposit.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
