Truancy Information

Truancy is what we call school non-attendance for kids between the ages of 12-18. The law allows us to "direct" (require) the student (through his or her parents) to meet with school administrators to discuss the reason the student is not attending school and also to cooperate with the school district to ensure the student's regular attendance.

Compulsory Education is what we call school non-attendance for kids ages 6-12. The law allows us to “direct” (require) the student (through his or her parents) to meet with school administrators to discuss the reason the student is not attending school and also to cooperate with the school district to ensure regular attendance. The law says we must inform the parents that it is a Class B Misdemeanor for the parent to intentionally or recklessly fail to make sure their child attends school.
