Brighton Students Have Winning Recipe

Culinary arts students at Brighton High School have found a recipe for success. The Brighton High students, many of whom work in the school’s award-winning campus restaurant, were honored this month with a first-place finish at a contest that pitted them against 21 teams from schools throughout Utah.The Brighton team won the “culinary” competition, which was held as part of ProStart, a two-year curriculum supported by the National Restaurant Association and state restaurant associations across the country. Freshman Swimmer Breaks National Record

Long Gutierrez, a ninth-grader at Butler Middle School who competes on the Brighton High School swim team, recently broke a national record for his age group. At a meet in St. George in February, Gutierrez logged a time of 49.02 in the 100 butterfly to break the previous national record of 49.18. Gutierrez also holds the state high school record in the event. Gutierrez, 14, is considered one of the 100 butterfly swimmers in the country in his age group.Read the Deseret News' account of Long's record-breaking swim meet.
