A Hillcrest High School sophomore is one of three Utah students selected to receive a Distinguished Award Scholarship from the Energy Solutions Foundation. The honor was presented last week to Nikolas Liodakis, the sophomore class president, during his Advanced Placement biology class. Liodakis, who was surprised with the announcement, was chosen to receive the $5,000 award from a field of 124 students who had already earned $2,000 merit scholarships from the foundation for excellence in their scholastic endeavors.  That brings Liodakis’ total scholarship money from Energy Solutions Foundation to $7,000. Midvale Middle Aims For IB Status

Midvale Middle School is rolling toward successfully becoming a school that is approved to offer the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, which is an internationally recognized program for children aged 11 to 16. The curriculum of the Middle Years Programme is designed to spark interest in all academic subjects. Students are shown that all things are connected; that there are, indeed, links between what they learn in the classroom and in the real world. CTEC Announces Spring Plant, Flower Sale

If April showers bring May flowers, then folks along the Wasatch Front should have one heck of a garden in a few weeks. Pick up plants you’d like to see growing in your yards and gardens at the Canyons Technical Education Center, 825 E. 9085 South, Sandy.  A sale on plants and flowers begins Wednesday, April 28. Geraniums, petunias, tomatoes and snapdragons are among the plants for sale from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Questions? Call 801-256-5745.
Albert Cui, a Hillcrest High School senior, has been selected as a member of the 22nd class of Coca-Cola Scholars. Cui is one of 253 high school seniors who will receive a cash scholarship from the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. Fifty-three will win $20,000. Two hundred will receive $10,000 scholarships.
