FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Canyons School District To Unveil Community-Inspired Logo

Cottonwood Heights, Utah, March 16, 2009 — The Canyons Board of Education is poised to unveil its official logo, inspired by the community of Utah’s newest school district.

WHEN: Tuesday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m.

WHERE: Union Middle School, 615 E. 8000 South, Sandy

Canyons School District last fall invited the community to submit design concepts to help create the official district logo. The district received 432 submissions from preschoolers, students and adults. The Board last month honored and awarded prizes to six finalists, and forwarded their work to designers as inspiration for the official district logo.

The new logo will be unveiled with the help of the finalists, who will receive additional honors from the Board.

About Canyons School District
In November 2007, voters in Alta, Cottonwood Heights, Draper, Midvale and Sandy created the first new school district in Utah in nearly 100 years. The seven-member Board of Education, sworn in July 15, 2008, adopted the name Canyons School District following a public naming contest. Canyons School District will begin offering services July 1, 2009.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
