Albion Middle School Community Plans Fundraiser For Chile

The Albion Middle School community is sponsoring a fund-raising event to help the people of Chile, who are struggling with the devastation wrought last weekend by an earthquake that registered 8.8 on the Richter scale.  Please plan to attend the Saturday, March 13 event, which from 4 to 8 p.m. will feature local bands and Chilean folk music and cuisine.  The massive quake, which scientists say was the seventh-strongest in recorded history and may have changed the Earth’s rotation, killed more killed more than 700 people and caused widespread devastation in the South American country.  This cause strikes close to home for Roberto Jimenez, an Assistant Principal at Albion, who was born in Santiago, Chile. Mr. Jimenez, who completed his undergraduate education at a university in Temuco, Chile, travels back to his native country often to see his family and support educational efforts there.  All contributions made at the Albion event will benefit the Chilean Red Cross.  Albion Middle School is at 2755 E. Newcastle Drive, Sandy.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
