Parties Planned to Cheer New Soccer Field, Artificial Turf

The Brighton High Bengals are gearing up to make fresh tracks at two new athletic fields.

This fall, the Bengals’ girls soccer team, always a contender for the state title, will be the first to play at the new soccer stadium. In addition, the Bengal football squad, which last year reached the 5A semi-finals, will have its maiden outing on the home field’s newly installed artificial turf.

Construction crews at both locations worked throughout the spring and summer to ensure that the fields were done before the Bengals were scheduled to play at home for the 2015 season.

The community is invited to two ribbon-cutting parties to cheer the end of construction and start of play at the two facilities.

On Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 3 p.m., Brighton’s players, coaches, the BHS administration, and the Board of Education will host at short ribbon-cutting celebration before the first home game of the season. The event will be at Brighton’s new soccer fields, built in front of Butler Middle, 7530 S. 2700 East.  Hot dogs and water will be served to attendees who arrive to cheer the Lady Bengals to victory against Northridge.

Wear your blue-and-orange Bengal gear to the Friday, Aug. 21 home game at Brighton. At 5:30 p.m., before the Bengals kick off for the first time on their new, colorful field, Brighton’s student body and administration, as well as the Board of Education, will applaud the installation of the turf. Officials will snip a red ribbon, hear a few words from football players and coaches, and celebrate with food from Brighton’s boosters. The tough Brighton squad will face Herriman at that night’s game.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
