BHS’s Masina to Get Jersey for U.S. Army All-American Bowl

A gridiron standout at Brighton High will dash onto the national athletic stage this January when he suits up to play in the 2015 U.S. Army All-American Bowl, the country’s premiere high school football game.

Osa Masina, who was last year’s All-Tribune Football Most Valuable Player, on Monday, Oct. 20 will receive his jersey for the bowl, which will be played in San Antonio’s Alamodome. Bowl officials will present the jersey during a 1:30 p.m. assembly in the gymnasium at Brighton High, 2220 E. Bengal Blvd.

Students, parents, patrons and Bengal supporters are invited to the jersey presentation for Masina, the 6-foot, 4-inch, 233-pound outside linebacker who is listed as a five-star recruit on Scout.com..

The Jan. 3 bowl, which will be broadcast on NBC, pits the country’s best 90 prep players in a classic east versus west matchup.  Last year’s bowl, its 14th anniversary, drew a crowd of some 40,000 fans for the second year in a row.

As a result of Masina being selected to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, head coach Ryan Bullett is invited to travel to San Antonio and attend the U.S. Army Coaches Academy, an elite three-day learning experience that focuses on leadership, football and physical development. The invited coaches also attend the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Awards Show and the 2015 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

For more than a dozen years, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl has served as the pre-eminent launching pad for America’s future college and National Football League stars. In all, 274 former bowl players have been selected in the NFL draft, including 69 first-round selections and one overall No. 1 pick.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
