Canyons’ Retirees Honored

The Canyons Board of Education recognizes and appreciates the contributions of the men and women who have dedicated decades of service in our schools.

As the school year draws to a close, the District pays tribute to the achievements of the educators and education support professionals whose careers are coming to a close. In all, CSD retiring employees have contributed more than 1,400 years of service to our schools and communities.

Canyons’ retirees, including Interim Superintendent Ginger Rhode, have worked tirelessly to ensure the best possible education for our community’s children, said Sherril H. Taylor, President of the Canyons Board of Education.

“Whether you have worked in school classrooms, school buses or school grounds, all of you have worked to help children, and help build a better tomorrow,” Taylor told the retirees and their guests at the Tuesday, April 29, 2014 Retirees Banquet. “Our schools will continue to grow stronger – all because of the power of the gifts you have shared.”

Taylor also presented Dr. Rhode a gift from the Board of Education.

“Dr. Rhode holds a very special place in Canyons District history,” he said. “She was one of the founding administrators of the District, put together one of the strongest academic teams in the country, and served as the main architect of our academic plan, which resulted in the state’s first-ever college- and career-ready high school diplomas.”

Open Houses to honor retirees are being held throughout the District.

To post information about Retiree Open Houses on the site, please send an e-mail message to jeff.haney@canyonsdistrict.org and jtcook@canyonsdistrict.org.  In the e-mail, please include the name of the retiree and the place, date and time of the reception. –

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
