Save the Date: Online Registration Opens Aug. 1

There are still summer adventures to be had, plenty of time for backpacking, backyard barbeques and beach vacations. Amid all the last-minute summer fun, don’t forget to register for your children for the 2019-2020 schol year.  Even if you’re on vacation, you can log-on and use our online registration system.

Online registration started Aug. 1. Because online registration is not first-come, first-served, you won’t need to worry about being the first to log in and register your child. Also, the time you register will not impact teacher or course selection for your child. So far, nearly 21,000 students have registered for the coming school year in the past week.

Canyons District has fixed a glitch in its online registration system that inadvertently posed questions to all patrons about a child’s refugee, immigrant and migrant status, if any. To address the concerns, the District has improved and streamlined the registration process and added clarifying language explaining that the information is needed to plan for English-language services for students whose primary language is not English. The District uses the data to apply for funding to provide supplemental instructional supports for students learning English. The survey was not intended for English-speaking students taking dual-language immersion classes. To be clear, information gathered as part of online registration at no time is shared with immigration authorities or used for immigration matters. We regret the worry or concern may have caused. If you have further questions or concerns, please contact Student Advocacy and Access Director Karen Sterling at 801-826-5111 or via email at karen.sterling@canyonsdistrict.org.

If your child has attended CSD in the past: You will use your Guardian Skyward Family Access ID and Password to begin the online-registration process at http://skyward.canyonsdistrict.org/. Once logged in, simply follow the prompts and make personal identification updates as needed.

If your child is new to CSD: You will need to begin the enrollment process at your child’s school. After Aug. 1, make sure to take a birth certificate, immunization records and proof of address into the Main Office of your child’s school. Please call the school in advance to find out when school staff will be in the office.

When registering online, you will need to pay any school fees using a credit card. If you prefer to pay with cash, or qualify for a fee waiver, or need to schedule a payment plan with your school, please contact your child’s school directly.

While registration for most students will be done online, you may still register in person if you prefer. All schools in Canyons District are scheduled to be open on specific dates and times for your walk-in registration convenience.

Need help logging in to Skyward? Contact: 801-826-5525.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
